As I have written about before, getting to know your students is extremely important. One way to get to know your students is to ask questions. Questioning can lead to conversations and knowing people more!
Personally, I like to ask students a bunch of different questions. I like to ask goofy questions, serious questions, what do you like questions and basic questions. I do this because it is interesting to learn random qualities about students. You also can use them as fun whole class discussions. I also think those serious questions can’t happen without getting to know students a bit.
You can ask students these questions on paper or online through a online form. My favorite is Google Forms. I like this because google will take all the questions and put them into a spreadsheet automatically. So, you could separate out by classes and be able to get important information quickly.
I want to provide you with different questions you could use to get your students or could use as journal entries. Below you see a variety of questions to ask students.
What is your favorite Color?
What is your favorite ice cream color?
What is your favorite month? (any Office fans out there?!)
What is your favorite food?
Who do you live with at home?
It is a rainy day! What are you doing?
If you could be any animal, what animal would you be and why?
If you could be any flavor of ice cream, what flavor of ice cream would you be? (This is my personal favorite)
If you could do anything you wanted to for a day, what would you do?
If you could travel anywhere, where would you go and why?
